The 2019 district conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9 through Friday, October 11 at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge. Our plenary speaker will be Dr. Benjamin Mayes, Assistant Professor of Historical Theology at Concordia Theological Seminary.

Dr. Mayes researches aspects of early Lutheran doctrine and practice that can directly help pastors and congregations today. He will speak on how early Lutheran “useful applications of Scripture” based on 1 Tim. 3:16 and Rom. 15:4 can enrich our preaching; on principles for pastoral care of consciences (casuistry); on early Lutheran resources for today’s creation vs. science debates; and on the early Lutheran biblical rationale for why a legitimate call to the ministry is necessary before performing pastoral functions. Dr. Mayes has been editing the writings of Martin Luther and Johann Gerhard for CPH since 2006 and has been on the faculty at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, since 2016.
