SOAR Seminar

Serving Older Adults in the Rocky Mountain District (SOAR)

23rd Annual Adult Gathering – September 18-19…

Our Reformation Heritage

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.” Romans 1:17 (NIV)

Come join the gathering at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lakewood, CO.  There are a variety of speakers such as:

REV. DR. GREGORY P. SELTZ, our keynote speaker, serves as the featured Speaker on Lutheran Hour Ministries’ flagship Christian outreach radio program. He will speak to us on two topics:  Reformation Mission – Capacity, Tenacity, and Candor to Boast in Him, and LHM and You – Using the Challenges of the Digital Culture to Share the Gospel.

REBECCA GILLETT is a volunteer with the Colorado office of the Arthritis Foundation. Speaking from personal experience, she will discuss self-management of health conditions, especially rheumatoid and other forms of arthritis.

STEVE HINSON is Director of Development at the Flatirons Habitat for Humanity. He will tell us how Habitat for Humanity represents one of the important solutions for permanently affordable home ownership opportunities to address the housing crisis facing Colorado.

REV. BOB TASLER will present (in costume) impersonations of both Dr. Martin Luther and his dear friend Dr. Philip Melanchthon. You’ll learn all kinds of interesting things about this “dynamic duo”, including how their wives were more “reformers” around the house than their husbands were.

REV. ROGER WOHLETZ Many Lutherans are familiar with some of the big events of Martin Luther and the Reformation.  But what was life like in Europe in the 1500s?  This presentation will provide some context, looking at the social, economic, religious and political factors that impacted Luther and the Reformation.

REV. DR. TILAHUN MENDEDO, Executive Development Officer for Lutheran Bible Translators, will give firsthand experience on the value of the heart language to communicate the precious promises of God.

REV. DAVID LANGEWISCH, pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran, will conclude the Gathering with a sermonette at the closing service.

4GIVEN will entertain us on Monday evening. This male vocal quartet from Risen Savior performed at our 2017 One Day Seminar and was enthusiastically received.
